The Coal City Intermediate School Beginning Band is preparing music for its Spring Concert on Wednesday, April 16.
Last month in February, the band had an excellent concert performance of a few
selections from their method book and the piece Bandroom Boogie. Additionally, they performed Mechanical Monsters with every band student in the Coal City Band program! It was a spectacular event and will definitely be something you want to include on your calendar for next year.
As the band is progressing through their method book, we are focusing on playing new notes and rhythms. These concepts will help us play more challenging music, and will be a topic of review in the beginning of sixth grade band.
Some students are going above and beyond by working through the Band Karate program! Director Andrew Brimm shared in order to earn a belt, students must play two songs out of the method book, play a portion of a scale, and play two complex rhythms. “Many students are excelling and we can’t wait to highlight their accomplishments at our Spring Concert,” the director said.
