The Coal City Community Unit School District’s annual Fine Arts Festival will feature a variety of art pieces created by students in fourth to 12th grades, and provide the community with presentations from the district’s vocal and instrumental music students.
For more than five decades, the school district has held the festival to showcase what students are learning and creating in their art classes, and to highlight the talents of those participating in the various band and choral programs.
This year’s festival is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 23 from 1-4 p.m. at Coal City High School. Artwork from the students will be on display throughout the afternoon and the various music groups will perform beginning with the middle and high school choirs at 1 p.m.
Performances continue with the middle school jazz band at 1:45 p.m.; high school jazz band at 2 p.m.; fifth grade band at 2:24 p.m.; sixth grade band at 3 p.m.; seventh and eighth grade band at 3:15 p.m.; the Mega Band at 3:30 p.m., and the high school band will close out the day with a 3:45 p.m. performance. The festival will also feature the solo stylings of various music students beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Admission is free. There will be a series of raffles presented by the Coal City Music Boosters with proceeds going to support the district’s music students and programs.
