Students in Mrs. Miller’s fifth grade class participated in a fun Science STEM challenge. The Challenge was to create a bubbling witch’s brew using the fewest ingredients possible. In groups students chose three ingredients to combine. Among the ingredients they could choose from were crushed dragon teeth, eyeball juice, monster snot, and powdered bones. After creating a potion, the students shared their ingredient choices and discussed similarities and differences. Following that, each student had an empty water bottle filled with a small amount of vinegar and attached balloons filled with baking soda to observe the reaction when combined. This is an investigation of matter and the reactions of solids and liquids.
