Snack time is reading time

Since the beginning of the school year, Ms. Benson’s students at Coal City Intermediate School have been reading chapters of the book “Wonder” during snack time. The students recently did activities that relate to the book, as they finished reading it. They did a character analysis, journal entry, and ended it with a 'choose kind' craft.

For the character analysis, each student got to choose a character from “Wonder.” They described the personality of the character they chose and explained a struggle they went through in our book. In the journal entry, students had the opportunity to choose one of five writing prompts that related to August, the main character in the  book. These prompts were big topics that were talked about throughout our book. Students used these prompts to relate it to their own personal lives. Lastly, they did a 'choose kind' craft. The class talked about what it means to choose kindness, and what actions they can take to show it. Students wrote a few sentences about a time they chose kindness.
