Mr. Vigna, a former Coal City High School social studies teacher, came to Mrs.
Anderson’s fourth grade classroom to teach students about the importance of Veterans Day. During the lesson, students learned about the branches of the military, why Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11, and the importance of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Students also took time to brainstorm adjectives that describe veterans. Some
words students used were courageous, loyal, patriotic, and brave. All in all, students
learned that the most important thing they can do on Veterans Day is to thank a veteran for their service. The lesson ended with students writing thank you letters to veterans.
