Principal's Message

Welcome to Coal City Intermediate School.....where kindness matters most!

I began my journey in education in January 1997 in Lockport D91 teaching 8th grade at Kelvin Grove School. In 2005 I became a PreK-3rd grade principal at Milne Grove School. In 2011 I became principal of Coal City Intermediate School, where I had attended middle school in the late 80s and my parents attended high school in the late 60s. Our beautiful, historical building is over 100 years old!

CCIS is a safe and special place to learn and have fun. We have high academic and behavioral expectations and believe strongly in good character and kindness. Our goal is to make each student feel included, safe, respected and loved.

I encourage parents/guardians to communicate with the teachers. The relationship between home and school is key to the success of our students. We recognize the importance of a student’s family in their education. Working together, we can and will achieve great things. Please support us by ensuring your child:

  • Attends school daily and arrives on time (7:45 - 7:55 a.m.) ready to learn. Students who are tardy (after 8:00 a.m.) miss important announcements and instruction.
  • Completes all homework assignments
  • Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
  • Talks to you about their school day so you’re aware of his/her school life

Our Back to School Night open house will be held on Monday, August 15 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Please bring school supplies that evening to lighten your child’s load on the first day of school, which is Tuesday, August 16 8:00-1:25.

Please contact me at [email protected] if you need any support or have questions, concerns or input. The CCIS staff and I are looking forward to a fantastic school year!
