The 5th - 8th grade Wrestling Coalers participated in the Sectional Tournament in Port Byron Riverdale this past weekend. Brantley Brooks was the lone sectional champion. Eli Wix, Eddie Gergits, Leo Christensen, and Zack Babcock finished in 2nd place. Hunter Sharwarko, Eathyn Rivera, and Nick Miller finished in 3rd place. These 8 wrestlers will compete in the State Tournament at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb this Friday & Saturday!  Good luck to our very own 5th grade wrestler, Eddie Gergits!

Wrestling News ~ The Coalers began their postseason at Seneca with 29 wrestlers competing on Saturday in the IESA regional tournament. Coal City finished in 2nd place as a team and advanced 11 wrestlers to the sectional tournament.  Eddie Gergits was a regional champion!  The Coalers will travel to Port Byron Riverdale this weekend where the top 4 in each weight class will advance to the state tournament.

No School Monday, 3/2 for Casimir Pulaski Day. Casimir Pulaski was a brave hero from Poland who helped the American colonists fight for freedom a long time ago during the American Revolution. He’s sometimes called “the father of the American cavalry” because he helped create and train soldiers who rode horses to protect people.

Dr. Seuss' birthday is Monday and next week is Read Across America Week!  On Tuesday wear your silly or mismatched socks.

Frozen Character Breakfast ~ Join the Coal City Theatre Department for a Frozen themed Character Breakfast on Sunday, March 1 at 9 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.

  • Guests will enjoy breakfast:  french toast, scrambled eggs, sausage and more. Kids will decorate their own Frozen themed donut, create a magical craft, snap photos with Elsa, Anna and Kristoff, and take an exclusive backstage tour to see how all the theatre magic is made.

Today is the End of Trimester 2, so it’s time to turn in any missing assignments and retake tests if you did poorly on them. Your report card grades will be finalized at the end of this week.

Wrestling News ~ The Coalers traveled to East Peoria to participate in the Mid State Duals. The Coalers went 3-2 on the day finishing in 5th place. The Coalers defeated Vandalia 49-33, Mahomet-Seymour 58-23 and New Lenox 66-34. They lost to Bloomington 37-62 and Canton 48-50. Fifth grader Eddie Gergits went 5-0 on the day and was named to the all-tournament team. Way to go, Eddie!  

The Candy Land dance pictures were given out TODAY if you attended the dance party. Make sure you give the picture to your parent.

Wrestling News ~ The Coalers traveled to Prairie Central to compete in 3 duals last night.  They were 2 & 1 defeating Heyworth 89-3 and Lincoln 58-43, and they lost to Prairie Central 44-50. Eddie Gergits was 3-0 for the night! Way to go, Eddie!

Morning Arrival REMINDER:  If you you walk to school, ride a bike to school or someone drops you off at school, please remember to enter through door #4 on the south side of the building by the 1-way street. You SHOULD NOT enter through the office door unless you arrive after 8:10.

Our district and school website has changed. The website address is still www.coalcityschools.org. If you have any questions please email Ann Gill at agill@coalcityschools.org.  Located in the upper right corner of the district homepage is Coaler Quick Links, a fast way to access information like lunch menus,  start and dismissal times and access to PowerSchool and RevTrak. 

The district also has a New Mobile Application. We encourage you to download the new app available in the App Store under Coal City Schools—it's designated by the interlocking CC with the shovel and pick logo.                         

  • The new app will allow you to continue receiving district & school notifications and information based schools you select.    
  • NO login is required to access the features of the new mobile app.  
  • RevTrak and PowerSchool can be accessed under the MORE tab. 

The PowerSchool App has not changed and will continue to work through the end of this school year. 

Snow Reminders ~ You are not allowed to throw snow at any time. If you do not have snow boots you will need to stay on the blacktop during recess if there is snow on the grass. If you do not have snow boots AND snow pants you cannot sit, kneel, or lay in the snow during recess. If you NEED a coat, hat, and/or gloves let us know.

Dress appropriately for the COLD weather. You will go outside for recess unless the “Real Feel” temperature is BELOW 10 degrees. If you need a coat, hat, and/or gloves let your teacher know.

“Extras” at Lunch ~ The cafeteria offers an extra entrée during lunch for $2.00. You must have money in your lunch account. You must have your lunch number memorized. Your lunch number is on your lunch card. The cafeteria staff will call “Extras” during the last 10 minutes of lunch while extra entrées last.

Attendance Reminders ~ Being at school is very important. If students have to miss school for an appointment, please get a note from the doctor. After 9 absences you are required to have a doctor’s note for any additional absences otherwise those absences are unexcused.

5th Graders ~ After recess be sure to go straight to lunch. You cannot stop at your locker, classroom, or bathroom before you get your lunch. You need permission to leave the cafeteria. 

No Food at Recess ~ You are not allowed to eat your lunch, your lunch leftovers or other snacks outside at Recess. All food needs to remain in your lunchbox OR eaten in the cafeteria.  

Shoes at Recess ~ You need to keep your shoes on during recess.

Backpack Program If you need food for home, ask your parent/guardian to fill out the form for the Backpack Program. A handout will be provided soon, or your parent/guardian can fill out this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeGQusj-N_zFRzcDlcu-gJgqsZ1W0Jxd492TSjmbfUvx1mAJA/viewform. If you are signed up for the Backpack Program, you will be given a bag of food to take home each Thursday.

CCIS is selling black “CC Coalers” trucker hats for $10 each while supplies last. Cash or check made out to CCIS. Stop in the office before or after school if you would like to buy a hat. We are also selling Pink Coalers Socks for $10 each while supplies last.

CCIS School Hours are 8:10-3:00. Doors open at 7:55.  Lunch/Recess Times: 5th Grade 11:15-12:05; 4th Grade 12:05-12:55. Breakfast is served every morning in the cafeteria 7:55-8:10.  Lunch cost is $3.20, Breakfast cost is $1.70, and Extra Milk costs $0.50. Parents can apply for Free or Reduced lunch, breakfast, school fees, etc.

Crossing Guard ~ If you walk or ride your bike to school do not arrive at school before 7:55 a.m. The crossing guard does not arrive until 7:45. Teachers do not come outside for supervision until 7:55.

Drop-off Reminders – Doors Open at 7:55 a.m. Drop​-off and pick​-up will be on the south side of the building on Second Street at Door #4. ​ Remember​, Second Street is a ​ONE-way street going ​East.​ Please pull into the "no parking zone" (parallel to the road) and let your child exit the vehicle. We ask that you then exit the spot ​by pulling forward onto the street again. Do not exit your vehicle as it will be a continuous drop and go lane.  Please pull up as far as possible to make room for as many vehicles as possible. (Do not stop at Door #4.)

Pick-up Reminders – 3:00 Dismissal Pick​-up will also be along Second Street. ​Pull in and pull all the way up​ to make as much room as possible for more vehicles. Please do not exit your vehicle as it will be a continuous pick up and go lane. Many staff members will be ​present to help to make sure students are getting into their parent's vehicle in a safe manner. 

School Buses Students riding a bus to school ​will get dropped off and picked up on the Northwest side of the building​ on our playground blacktop. Staff is always visible when students enter and leave the building. If you need assistance with bussing, please contact the bus company: 815-634-0333.

It’s a good idea to bring a water bottle and snack to school each day. 

After school if your ride is missing and you don’t see us outside to help, you should ALWAYS come to Door 1 at the Main Office and push the doorbell. We are here to help you! 

Reminder…Hats must be removed when you're inside the building and you cannot have your hood on/up inside the building.
